The Hoodie - From Workwear to Streetwear
Already in the Middle Ages, there were the first garments with hoods. Monks in particular wore oversized hoods on their robes. In the 1930s, the hoodie was mainly used as workwear. It was especially important in cold storage and meat processing. The workers could thus shoulder the animals without getting dirty. In addition, the attached kangaroo pocket provided warm hands and the hood provided warm ears. The inventor of the hoodie is considered to be the American brand Champion, which was established in the 30s. The hoodie takes its name from the term "hooded sweatshirt", which is basically a sweater with a hood sewn on. Champion hoodies are still hot today and with us, you always get the latest models of the American cult brand. As happened with blue jeans, the men's hoodie has quickly become a part of casual wear. It is just as hard to imagine the streetwear cosmos without it as sneakers or the beanie.
What makes a good hoodie?
- Hood (of course!)
- Drawstring to tighten (leave it in or take it out is a matter of taste)
- Kangaroo pockets (there are also models where this is omitted)
- It should be cozy! (Your girlfriend already knows why she likes to wear yours so much...)
- Oversized or true-to-size, you decide the style.
Cool hoodies, but which color?
Of course, you can color match your whole outfit and especially among the sneaker and streetwear scene, "color matching" is part of the game. The classic men's hoodie is usually made of cotton and finished with prints and embroidery. Seasonally, there are also teddy hoodies made of sherpa or fleece, so you get through the cold winter with style. Hoodies in black are always up-to-date, but also blue, white and gray are popular colors for hoodies. For all those who are a little bolder in color, pink hoodies are just the thing. Currently, brown hoodies are the non plus ultra, thanks to Travis Scott. Hoodies with allover prints or men's hoodies with tie-dye are absolutely on trend. Hoodies with back prints continue to be the most popular. The back side of the hoodie is made for large-scale motifs or elaborate embroidery. The hoodie with back print, or as a monochrome basic, we have the best hoodies for men. The big streetwear brands like Stussy, Carhartt WIP or Market of course always have hoodies represented in their collections. But also the smaller labels like thisisneverthat, Pleasures, Wasted Paris or Aries celebrate the hoodie. Of course, the big players do not forget the importance of the hoodie. The Nike hoodie, especially the Essentials by Nike NSW in monochrome designs and small embroidered Swoosh on the chest, can be seen everywhere. Hoodies from adidas are also hot and can be found in pretty much every collection. Of course, "The GOAT" also has a heart for the hoodies. Hoodies from Jordan Brand feature the Jumpman on the chest and cool vintage motifs from "His Airness" as a back print.
Zip-Hoodie - The hooded sweater with a zipper
The Zip Hoodie is a mixture of a jacket and a hoodie. The front is divided by a zipper, creating a whole new look for the hoodie. You no longer have to painstakingly pull the sweater over your head, and when you wear the zip hoodie open, you can reveal your cool T-shirts underneath. Zipped hoodies from C.P. Company combine high quality materials with the hip zipper hoodie.
