Today, Asics is the fifth largest sporting goods company in the world with operations around the world. The name is derived from the Latin: Anima Sana In Corpore Sano, which means: "A healthy soul in a healthy body."

Asics sports shoes - how it all began...
These words left a great impression on Onitsuka and inspired him to produce sports shoes to promote people's health through sports. Although nowadays people mostly associate Asics with running shoes, the company's first model was a basketball shoe. These shoes were considered the most complex at the time, but Onitsuka figured that if he cleared the most difficult hurdle first, everything else couldn't be that hard. The Asics basketball shoe was tested and improved before it was released in 1950. In the early 1950s, Asics released its first jogging shoe, a model specifically for running marathons and adapted to the special challenges. Sports like volleyball or baseball are extremely popular in Japan, Asics developed special shoes for almost every sport in the 50s and 60s and laid the foundation for worldwide success early on. At the 1966 Summer Olympics, Asics presented the so-called "Mexico Stripes", which later became the "Tiger Stripes" and are still symbolic of Asics sneakers today.

Asics Gel - One technology changes everything.
Asics has always been about getting the best out of its products. The establishment of various technology centers and testing and research laboratories are proof of this. In 1986, the first model with the silicone cushioning material in the sole was launched. From then on, Asics Gel technology has been continuously developed and is still one of the most important functional materials associated with Asics. In the 90s, Asics manifested its supremacy in performance running shoes and presented the Asics Gel Kayano in 1993, which is still available in modified form to this day. The Gel Nimbus from Asics or GT 2000 are two other models that have made the leap from performance running shoes to fashion sneakers. With the models Asics Gel Lyte III and Gel Lyte V had been developed in the 90s shoes for jogging, which has come to fame outside the sporting activity, as they found great appeal in the sneaker scene.

Overkill x Asics
In June 2015, the time had come and we were able to celebrate our first collaboration with Asics. The stories from "1001 Nights" and the Moroccan desert rose were the inspiration for our Asics Gel-Sight "Desert Rose".
