the Overkill Story

THE BEGINNING ...
Deeply rooted in the Berlin graffiti scene, the OVERKILL magazine was founded in 1992 to give this vibrant scene a powerful visual and informative mouthpiece. With increasing popularity as well as increasing number of copies the project OVERKILL grew rapidly in the following years and developed into a mailorder, located in a small office in Berlin-Treptow. Also here a fast development took place, which then finally resulted in the idea to open also a, to the already existing inventory, suitable store.
In September 2003 the time has come, in the heart of Kreuzberg, a store of about 60 sqm for graffiti, sneakers and streetwear was created - an absolute novelty for this district, which has never seen a store of this kind before. The OVERKILL store was born!

THE NEXT LEVEL.
In the first initial years the store started with 4 people and offices even shared the storage space with the cans and the shoe boxes... But already here the foundation was laid for the further extremely versatile direction in which OVERKILL would operate in the future:
In these first years there were already exhibitions, concerts, parties, art perfomances and many other interesting events directly in the store. The popularity of OVERKILL began to grow steadily from here on.

2007-2008 - THE RECONSTRUCTION AND EXPANSION.
The range of sneakers, graffiti supplies and apparel increased steadily and OVERKILL expanded through a massive remodeling & expansion of its space and a completely new sales concept from 60m2 to now 250m2. The 1st floor was furnished in the style of a typical Berlin old building apartment, whereas the first floor was converted into a store gallery with showroom character.
This change was accompanied by a complete redesign of the OVERKILL CI including logo, which clearly marked the beginning of this new era.
Now also larger capacities were available to welcome more customers at our events. The size and the content of exhibitions, release events etc. and of course also the brand portfolio and the further whole store offer could be optimized and expanded significantly.

PRESENT & FUTURE.
In 2014, there was another relaunch, in which the store was completely renovated and optimized even further. The apparel department was created on the 1st floor and the first floor now offers the largest shoe selection in Berlin. The brand portfolio has continued to grow and more and more collaborations with brands like adidasAsicsNew Balance or KangaROOS regularly find their way onto the shelves. In addition, there are now in an already long tradition in the now very popular OVERKILL spot further elaborate events, such as the Air Max Day events of recent years.
In 2016, there was another big innovation, when to the enormous growth of the global sneaker scene and the associated increase in female sneaker lovers was reacted and next to the original store OVERKILL Women has opened, a store, especially only for women's sneakers and everything that goes with it. Here, too, several events have already taken place, which have always enjoyed a special flair, not only because of the unique interior.
In summer 2019, after long planning and extensive construction work, we were then able to realize an idea that had accompanied us for some time. With GATE, we opened a visionary concept store in the courtyard between Main and Women's Store, which is probably unique in this form. Here, higher and contemporary (street)fashion is combined with art and music and allows us and our customers to look beyond the horizon.
The growth of OVERKILL continues constantly. In the fall of 2021, we opened the doors to our OVERKILL Cologne store to give sneaker and streetwear lovers in the cathedral city and its catchment area the opportunity to become part of the OVERKILL Family.
Many years of great work lie behind us and we look forward with the anticipation to further projects already developed and an action-packed future.
