Yoshida became interested in making bags as a child and began his education at just 12 years old. In 1962, Porter was established as Yoshida's first in-house brand. The brand's name and logo are inspired by the hotel porter, someone you trust to keep your valuables safe.

Since its inception, Porter Yoshida has been designing and manufacturing exclusively in Japan. The material of Porter's bags is mostly durable nylon, which was inspired by the MA-1 bomber jackets of the US military and used for the "Tanker" series as early as 1983.
