Designer Tommy Hilfiger founded the brand named after him in 1985 in New York.

The logo for his own brand, a rectangle with blue, red and white, Hilfiger borrowed from the nautical flag alphabet. Even without the Tommy Hilfiger lettering, this logo is known around the world. Driven by his own ambition, the Hilfiger brand became bigger and more popular every year. The fashion, which was initially intended only for men, he himself described as casual sportswear, clothing classics with a twist. The so-called "preppy look" was and is a trademark for Hilfiger. It describes students from affluent homes and their particular style of clothing. In the early 90s, Hilfiger's pieces became increasingly popular in the hip-hop community. The trend of intentionally wearing Hilfiger clothing "baggy" went so far that Hilfiger had entire collections produced in this style. From that point on, the buyer base divided into two camps, which is quite unusual for a brand. On the one hand, there are still the classics such as Tommy Jeans and the perfumes and mid-priced apparel for men and women. On the other hand, the colorful and sporty Streetwear of Tommy Hilfiger, such as track jacket and suits, as well as basics like T-shirts or sweatshirts.
