The sneaker was designed by Jacques Chassaing, who was responsible for almost all models of the ZX series. The adidas ZX 500 was named after the fastest street-legal motorcycle at the time, and the colorway is also based on it. The model names do not follow any logical order or have any meaning. Models like the ZX 710 from 1987 or the ZX 700 are still popular retro sneakers for women or men today.

ZX 8000 - From Aqua to Lego
1989 was the birth year of the four-digit ZX series. The team at adidas around masterminds Chassaing and Markus Thaler continued to develop the adidas ZX series. The sole would be separated into two parts for more freedom, which were joined by the "torsion bone". In addition to its utility as a performance running shoe, however, the adidas ZX 8000 was also adapted by other subcultures. The warehouse scene in Manchester appreciated the model not only for its bright color, but also for its comfort to rave through the night. In Germany, for example, the adidas ZX were increasingly common on stadium terraces, where they formed a kind of casual uniform with other clothing. The ZX 8000 is so popular that it sold out immediately with every retro release. It also forms the perfect base for collaborations like with Bape or Lego from the AZX collection. By the way, the current ZX 8000 models are also equipped with Boost, which makes the shoe even more comfortable.

Adidas ZX Flux
In 2014, Adidas achieved the very big coup, because with the ZX Flux there was a model suitable for the masses. The upper was made from one piece and so there were endless design options. Optionally, there was a knitted Primeknit upper or a nylon material which was printed, the adidas shoe was thus very light and comfortable.

What do the colors mean on the ZX series?
The four-digit ZX models from adidas have unique colorways. But at second glance, you can see that the colors are used to emphasize certain features of the performance shoes. The blue of the adidas ZX 8000 Aqua stands for Cushion, the yellow of the ZX 6000 for Support and the green of the ZX 7000 for Guidance. Both the colors and the features were later used for the adidas Equipment models as well.

ZX 10,000 - The ZX story continues.
With the ZX 10.000, adidas has managed to create a model that clearly carries the ZX DNA. Jacques Chassaing lent his expertise to the design process and his successors managed to perfectly continue the story of the adidas ZX series. In February 2019, Overkill had the pleasure of handling the launch of the adidas ZX 10,000. Almost 30 years after the last release from the ZX series, a successor model of the adidas ZX 9000 "Hydra" was presented. The old advertising slogan of adidas ZX: "I want, I can" became "I can if I want", because in the box, in addition to the aqua-colored pair, there was a single shoe around Hydra colorway.
